About mid-way through high school I became interested in my family history. My mum had done a lot of research into her tree, so I started there. I computerised a lot of her research, and even added to it with a little digging on the interblag. That side of the family are the Durhams from the USA. We can trace the tree back as far as Virgnia in about 1700 but then the trail runs dry. We suspect they came from England, but haven't been able to find any connection.

It took a little while, but I soon became interested in my dad's side of the family too. These are Greeks, the Karps on one side and Zervoses on the other. They're from the small island of Kastelorizo, so records are really pretty limited. Family events are HUGE, and the only way of surviving those family gatherings is by getting people on the backfoot and shooting them down with questions as soon as they enter. "Whoareyouwhenwereyoubornkids?nogoodyou'renotdeadyetgotitthanks!"

Here, then, is where I post sources and findings that might be of interest to other genealogists. If you're out there and you're related to me, please do drop me a line! I'm always interesting in hearing from long lost cousins and I'll be more than happy to swap information with you.

Durham Genealogy

The Durham Story - An article about life in colonial America that quotes extensively from a speech by Bluford A. Durham.

History of Frank M. Durham - The autobiography of Frank M. Durham.

James Anderson Durham Obituary - A newspaper obituary of James A. Durham.

Will of George Durham (? - 1767) - The full will of George Durham, who died in Brunswick, Virginia in 1767. There is good evidence he was the father of James Lindsey Durham.

Greek Genealogy

Both sides of my dad's family, the Karps (Karpouzis) and the Zervoses, come from a small Greek island of the coast of Turkey called Kastelorizo. Somehow nearly the entire clan moved out to Australia in the early 1900s.
